Desktops and portables have been swapping hardware to great advantage (or disadvantage accordingly) for years. What's killing me is my current desktop is starting to give me trouble, which effectively locks me out of shopping for a portable as I now have to repare for IT'S replacement. (-and one of these little things isn't going to cut it for my main machine.) Basically remove the keyboard, pad, battery and screen and replace it with a cover. You could put your monitor right on it or it would fit nice in a stereo rack.
